An Abridged History of Litchborough Cricket Club: Part 1 - Club History

One of the earliest personalities was Charles Bedford Thorneycroft who in 1907 played for Northamptonshire C.C.C vs. Kent and Warwickshire.

Until the early 1970’s, the cricket ground was by the Northampton Road on the farm of the Wait family who were enthusiastic cricketers and long term supporters of the village team.

As farm animals grazed the cricket field, no mowing of the outfield was allowed and a team innings of 85 runs was usually a winning total.

Although Litchborough is a small village of little over 200 people, it takes great pride in its sporting tradition having good football and cricket teams dating back to the late 1880s.

Existing cricket match sheets go back to 1912 when the team played Everdon whose opening bowler L. Bodily put in a great performance taking all 10 Litchborough wickets.
