Such was the increase in numbers that the village hall couldn’t cope and it was decided that the annual dinner / dance should become strictly an all ticket affair with the venue being changed to the larger premises of the Pickwick restaurant in Towcester.

An Abridged History of Litchborough Cricket Club: Part 3 - Achievements

Litchborough committee decided on playing ‘friendly’ matches as opposed to league cricket and over the years keenly fought but sportingly friendly matches were played against such teams as Gayton C.C., Belanco C.C., Greens Norton C.C., St. Crispins C.C. and the Old Towcestrians C.C.

Greens Norton C.C. established and organised an invitation ‘knock-out’ competition for local clubs and gave a trophy aptly named The Greens Norton Knock Out cup.  When Litchborough triumphed over Helmdon C.C. in 1958 to win their one and only trophy, the player’s officials and supporters were justly proud of their achievement and celebrated accordingly in their unofficial headquarters, The Red Lion!

The team that day was:- J.W. Hutchings (captain), R. Pittom, B. Tarry, T. Buxton, R. Watkins, R. Shepherd, D. Tate, J. Lyall, F. Salmons, B. Reeve and, R. Hutchings.  J. Grey umpire.  After this triumph, it was decided to hold an annual mid winter dinner / dance in Litchborough village hall and to invite a member of Northants C.C.C. to attend as a guest of honour.

Over the years such great players as Denis Brookes and Frank Tyson, both international stars, created so much interest with their after dinner speeches that many members of our friendly opposition teams requested tickets for future events.

In those early years the cricket club was known as Ivens Litchborough C.C.

The president provided the club with transport for away games and one of the very earliest matches away played at Billing Aquadrome.
